A Good Clean Energy Policy  By Haydn Dunn

Less Co2

With all the talks of climate change and people investing billions on all sorts of technologies that may have drawbacks. I say lets tackle clean energy issues from the ground up … first and foremost we can’t afford to be “back tuh front”. Governments should start with a clean energy policy framework first..
so here is my vision for a clean energy policy

Put a Price on Carbon
Carbon pollution costs the polluter nothing , all the rest of us pay the price. I say if you’re a company that pollutes you should pay !!! Making carbon emissions expensive encourages a switch to less carbon-intensive energy so companies will be forced to look at renewable energy options
In Sweden they tax for CO2 emissions, carbon-based fuels, and domestic flights, and cut taxes for companies implementing green fuels.

Reforestation Projects
The government must create a reforestation project , We must start by preserving our forests as part of ecosystems but also plant trees in cities and suburbs, I see that we have a lot of open land and no trees being planted, governments and businesses must encourage schools and communities in these projects . There are too many constructions taking place with no efforts to preserve and restore our greenery, it’s a concrete jungle out there, we need more trees !!!

Tax Credits for Renewable energy use

Tax credits for those who install climate-friendly technology, having a tax credit makes renewables affordable and builds the market to achieve economies of scale.

Feed-In Tariffs and Net Metering
Is another policy mechanism designed to encourage the adoption of renewable energy sources. Under a feed-in tariff, an obligation is imposed on a national power generating company to buy a certain percentage of renewable energy, however we need renewable energy companies to set up shop.
Germany’s Renewable Energy Act of 1999, which includes a feed-in policy, renewable energy jobs are up to 200,000, renewable energy is at 12% of total energy production, and annual installation of solar PV systems exceeds those in all other countries combined.

Net Metering
is another policy where we can generate our own renewable energy via solar, wind or Home fuel cells
Under net metering, the system owner receives retail credit for at least a portion of the electricity they generate. Most electricity meters accurately record in both directions, allowing a no-cost method of effectively banking on excess electricity production for future credit.

Shift the Subsidy on Fossil Fuels to Renewable Energy
Shift government subsidies from climate-trashing fossil fuels to climate-friendly renewables and energy efficiency.

Livable Communities
Make our communities livable where people can walk (less crime), ride a bike, or use the public transportation system effectively. This is the most efficient way to live. It builds communities and improves quality of life, especially for youth and our elderly.
Computerize our government agencies … I should be able to renew my drivers permit online, and anything else that would avoid travelling or driving to the heart of the city to conduct my business
Did you know that in Most of Europe, where quality of life is high co2 emissions are half those of the United States and other large countries ? the statistics are there

Create a Co2 awareness campaign

Raise awareness and educate the public about carbon emissions, create a mission on working with businesses and citizens on how they can reduce carbon emissions on a daily basis for example carpooling, maintaining your vehicle regularly, Buying a Fuel-Efficient Vehicle, Sensible driving to avoid wastage of gas, Telecommute – Work from home to prevent driving, changing those old incandescent light bulbs to Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFL) and many others

Remember it starts with all of us . We must do the right thing to lower Co2 emissions, I wish for a clean green energy policy to become a reality, I cannot wait until 2020 for this to happen. It must start now !!!
